There’s a very disrurbing trend developing in the Pet Care Servcies Industry and you should know about as it may impact the development of your Kennel or Dog Day Care. Some Consultants, Vendors, and Manufacurers engage in paying and receiving referral fees for recommending their clients to their cronies. In our opinion, this is a polite way of saying these businesses pay lucarative Kickbacks for getting business. It’s our opinion that this business practice is predatory and unscrupulous, smacks in the face of ethical business practices, and ultimately drives up the cost of developing a Pet Care Service Business.
We don’t take referral kickbacks from architects, bankers, builders, vendors, or any manufacturer for recommending our clients to them. We’ve been offered and we’ve refused huge referral commissions totaling tens of thousands of dollars from Architects, Bankers, Builders, Kennel Enclosure manufacturers and many other Pet Care Business vendors and suppliers. Let’s look at the added cost of these kickback schemes. Referral fees vary but can be 1 to 3 per cent of the total loan values from some bankers, several per cent from some builders, and 2 to 3 per cent from some product manufacturers. These referral fees alone can generate tens of thousands of dollars for consultants willing to accept referral fees. And you’re the one footing the bill. We think this business practice is OUTRAGEOUS !!!! We don’t think you should have to pay hidden fees in a roundabout manner for a consultant simply referring your business to a Pet Care Product and Service vendor, supplier, and/or manufacturer. Before you hire any consultant, we suggest you obtain a signed disclosure of referral fee arrangements they may have with vendors and suppliers specifically outlining the fees they receive if you contract with any of the vendors or suppliers they recommend.
Better yet, we believe you should have your legal representative prepare an affidavit prohibiting consultants from receiving kickbacks for referrals from Architects, Builders, Bankers, Graphic Designers, Kennel enclosure manufacturers and other supplier or vendor. Similarly, it may be prudent to have a reciprocal agreement precluding any supplier or manufacturers from paying referral fees. You may be quite surprised to see what real consulting fees are after you factor in the hidden referral fee kickbacks. Finally, require your Pet Care Business Consultant and/or product and service suppliers to adhere to the Code of Ethics of The Pet Care Consultants and Vendors Association which prohibits referral fees and kickbacks.
